Are Airport responsible for lost items?
-
Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) helps manage lost items—but responsibility depends on where the item was lost:
📍 If it was lost in the terminal
You report it via the official BUF Lost & Found form or by calling the airport’s general line and choosing Lost & Found (option #3). They'll try to match your description to items in their inventory. While they hold items, the airport typically doesn't guarantee recovery—they facilitate collection and storage, but aren’t legally responsible.
🛂 If lost at a TSA security checkpoint
Those items are handled specifically by TSA, not the airport terminal staff. . Contact TSA at the checkpoint number to inquire. Again, they generally aren’t legally liable, but follow federal lost‑and‑found protocols.
🛬 If left on the aircraft or at a gate
Responsibility lies with your airline, not the airport. You'll need to reach out to the airline’s baggage service or use their lost‑and‑found process .
